“Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making World Children’s Day relevant for their societies, communities, and nations.”

    United Nations

On November 20, 1959, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. The declaration recognizes that all children, have rights and freedoms that in the end are aimed at fostering a happy childhood for the good of the child and for the good of society.

This year, the covid-19 situation has resulted in a crisis for children’s rights. We don’t have to look very far to see the effects of this pandemic, and unfortunately, they may last a lifetime for our little ones.

While some things are out of our hands, and though we might seem powerless at times, there is always a way we can impact the world or the world of a child. It’s time that the boomers, the X’ers, and millennials unite in elevating what’s possible for our children and assume the responsibility of leaving the world better for them than we found it. One small act at a time.
